I graduated from University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science in 1991. After about ten years in veterinary practice, I obtained a Bachelor of Education and spent the next eight years as a secondary school Science and Biology teacher.
My teaching involved working with adolescents with varying learning styles, interests and motivations. The principles of pedagogy included providing a safe learning environment with learning opportunities that built confidence and self-direction in the learners; setting SMART goals - specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based; designing flexible learning tasks to accommodate different needs and interests; sequencing tasks in small steps for students who need more support; looking for the good and celebrating success often; and using assessment to inform future teaching. Which all sounds like modern behaviour modification for pet dogs!
During this time I got my first dog since childhood, my beautiful German Shepherd Remy.
This started my passion for dog behaviour and training and I have gone on to own three German Shepherds which I have trained for the sport of IGP (Formerly IPO and Schutzhund).
With these dogs I have achieved BH titles (a companion dog obedience and temperament test) and multiple tracking passes including the advanced FH-1 title. We have also dabbled in scentwork, a 20km endurance test, bike-jor and just swimming in dams and hanging out together.

Renewed learning in the ethological, emotional and motivational influences on animal behaviour led me to investigate and practice the "modern methods of behaviour modification". These methods are effective, kind, cognisant of the animal's needs, help build confidence in the learner and are easy for the pet owner to achieve, with the least likelihood of causing harm physically or to the emotional state of the animal.
Over the years I have attended hundreds of dog training and behaviour workshops and seminars across Australia, virtual international webinars and conferences.
